About Us
At Reflections Nanaandwejgejig Bezhigoogizhiik (Healing Horses), offers an experiential and unique approach to teaching life skills using horses to individuals who are struggling with mental health. Our program allows the individual to understand themselves and start addressing the impacts of intergenerational trauma, as well as working toward overcoming issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, aggression and addictions. One of the ways we do this is with horses.
Horses, by nature, develop coping strategies with confidence and are capable of reading or becoming aware of how a person is feeling before the individual even understands it themselves. The horses in our program will help explore positive & personal development through a powerful journey of learning and understanding, analyzing and developing strengths in communication, building leadership and teamwork skills, constructing confidence & self-esteem, building trust, aspiring for your self-worth, and exploring conflict resolutions.
Reflections Nanaandwejgejig Bezhigoogizhiik offers individual equine therapy sessions, wholistic groups sessions addressing all aspects of healing and self-reflection; ensuring we are in balance spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically. We also have opened up to tourism with the welcoming of our Ojibwe Spirit Horses which arrived on June 4, 2024. We are members of Indigenous Tourism of Ontario and accredited through Indigenous Tourism of Canada.

Connecting with our horse relatives, “Aankobinaangwaa bezhigoogzhii ezhi-nwendaasing” has been a powerful way to connect and heal. Reflections provides an experiential approach to teaching life skills using horses. Participants engage in hands-on learning that advances through exercises as team members in exploring positive development of communication, self-respect, confidence, trust, accountability and conflict resolution. Sessions incorporate a variety of ground work and general horsemanship activities such as grooming, leading and herd observation.
Healing with Horses group sessions can be tailored to fit the needs of the participants. Reflections has held groups for women that have been impacted by violence, men's groups, as well as empowering youth sessions.
Meet our Horses
At Reflections Nanaandwejgejig Bezhigoogizhiik (Healing Horses), our horses are more than companions—they are intuitive guides on the journey to healing. Each horse has a unique personality and role in helping participants build trust, confidence, and self-awareness. With their natural ability to sense emotions, our horses assist in addressing mental health challenges like anxiety, trauma, and depression. Meet the horses who play a vital role in our therapy sessions, offering support, connection, and a powerful experience of personal growth.
Horses and people share a unique connection. In equine-assisted learning, horses help facilitators observe non-verbal communication and guide participants to achieve their goals. This hands-on approach boosts retention and understanding of the skills learned, without involving riding—just groundwork.
Why horses are ideal for this experience:
-
Horses are sensitive and highly aware, responding quickly to body language.
-
They seek strong leadership and trust, testing boundaries when behavior is inconsistent.
-
Horses value teamwork, react honestly, and cannot lie, providing honest feedback that fosters personal growth.
-
Their intuitive nature offers facilitators insight into participants, helping guide individual change.
